Roman Private Law

Reading Roman legal texts and connecting them with modern legal issues.

This course is based on the reading of Roman texts on certain subjects of private law. These subjects change every year. Special attention is given to the classical period, when the textbook of Gaius originated, and the time of Justinian. In some cases Greek sources are also studied. Knowledge of Greek and Latin is not required, but some knowledge of Latin is helpful.
The course is concluded with an oral examination.
